Currency

Default settings

By default, currency in Rentals United is established on the basis of the property location. That is, each location has a fixed currency assigned and all properties created there take its currency on.

Example: The currency in New York is set to USD. All properties in New York will take the USD, regardless of what the Property Manager would want. Additionally, if the PM has properties in different cities, then each property will operate in a different currency - EUR in Berlin, GBP in London, USD in New York etc.

The currency of any property can be checked in Rentals United. To do so, select the All properties tab and choose the property you are interested in. Click Edit/Improve button and go to Step 5: Price and availability.

Custom settings

In order to improve the currency exchange related processes between PMS, Rentals United and Sales Channel, a new solution has been introduced - Dynamic Currency Mapping.

The solution will allow new users and users meeting certain requirements to request enabling the custom currency for all properties within a given location. Hence, you will no longer provide pricing details in the currency enforced by Rentals United or lose any revenue due to conversion.

Example: You have properties in London and Liverpool. In Rentals United, all properties located in the UK will operate in GBP by default. However, if for some reason you find it easier or more beneficial to operate in USD in London, then it is possible with the Dynamic Currency Mapping. This will affect all your properties located in London. Nonetheless, properties in Liverpool will still operate in GBP unless you request the change.
In case Dynamic Currency Mapping is enabled in a given location, the existing currency conversion mechanism is taken into use. This means that the prices of reservations made in a foreign currency are converted to the one defined in the user’s current settings (either default or custom).

If you are a PULL PMS client, you can provide the prices in the currency you select in Rentals United to avoid any financial loss due to conversion. However, when you import pricing in a currency different from the one in Rentals United, the prices will be converted in case they do not match.

Requirements to switch

You need to ensure the following conditions in order to be eligible for the Dynamic Currency Mapping:

  • The properties in locations you want to switch the currency for cannot be connected to any Sales Channels.

In order to meet this condition, you need to deactivate the connection of these properties with any Sales Channels. You may find it useful to see the article on how to check exactly what channels your property is connected to (see All properties) and how to deactivate it (see Channel Integrations). Feel free to ask the assistance of our Key Account Managers Team.

  • You cannot have any reservations (past, pending or future) registered in any location the currency is to be switched for.

If any property in a given location has ever been booked, the currency switch for this location needs to be preceded with an additional step. You need to perform a migration of your properties to the new Rentals United account. Please, contact your Key Account Manager to obtain details of this procedure.

Requesting Dynamic Currency Mapping

If you wish to have the Dynamic Currency Mapping enabled, please contact the Rentals United Support Team and indicate the locations that should take the new currency, as well as provide the currency you would like your properties to operate on. Make sure that you are eligible for this process, which you can read about at Requirements to switch.

API details

If you are an API or a PMS user, you can read more about the Dynamic Currency Mapping in the Rentals United Developer Portal: the RUC and Dynamic Currency Mapping. You can also check what currency is set for your location using Pull_GetLocationsListByName_RQ API method.
