Processing a Stripe charge affects how you can modify reservations and manage guest credit cards in Rentals United. Understanding these limitations and behaviors helps ensure smooth reservation management and billing.
Manage reservation modifications
After the system processes the first installment charge, Rentals United locks the reservation details in the user interface.
After the system processes the first charge, you can't modify the reservation elements in your Rentals United account, even for details unrelated to the price.
Issuing a refund doesn't unlock the reservation in the user interface.
You can still modify the reservation using the Rentals United API.
Price updates
If a reservation price changes, the system recalculates the "Total booking amount" and "Uncharged balance" fields automatically. You can then edit your remaining scheduled charges manually to match the new total.
Update guest credit cards
If a guest needs to update their payment method, you can swap the credit card using one of two methods:
Request the guest to provide new credit card details directly in the sales channel.
Update the credit card details manually within the Rentals United platform.
How card updates affect payments
Replacing a credit card doesn't disrupt your existing payment setup:
Future charges: The system automatically bills the newly added credit card for all future scheduled payments.
Past refunds: The system returns any refunded amounts to the specific credit card that was originally used for that successful transaction.
