Understanding credit card tokenization and credit card details reveal with Stripe

Connecting Stripe to your Rentals United account changes how guest credit card details are stored and accessed. These security measures protect sensitive guest data while ensuring you can process payments reliably.

Tokenizing credit cards with Stripe

Tokenization secures sensitive data by replacing credit card numbers with a unique, non-sensitive identifier. This process allows Rentals United to safely store and bill the card for future installments without exposing actual account numbers.

Automatic tokenization

Credit cards sent from external sales channels aren't tokenized automatically when the reservation enters the system. Instead, the system tokenizes a card when:

  • You charge the credit card for the first time

  • You enter the credit card details manually into Rentals United

Tokenization timelines

You can tokenize a guest's credit card at any point during the reservation cycle (until the check-out date).

Revealing credit card details

To maintain strict security standards and PCI compliance, you can't view raw credit card data once you connect to Stripe. The option to reveal the credit card details is unavailable for users connected to Stripe. You will see an inactive button with the following notification: "Reveal not available because use is connected to Stripe service".
