Instant book vs. Request to book

Different sales channels offer two basic modes of reservation creation. These are instant bookings and requests to book. In this article you will read about the differences between them and get to know the use cases for each mode.

Instant book

Listings operating on instant book allow your guests to book immediately without a need to send a request to the host for approval. These bookings are instantly confirmed online. This gives you the convenience of not having to check every request from every potential guest. It is especially convenient for last-minute trips. Majority of sales channels offer the instant booking option.

According to Airbnb, guests like the option to use instant book and many hosts report that they earn more money by using this tool, plus they appreciate the convenience it provides.

Benefits:

  • Higher number of reservations, especially last-minute bookings

  • Increased revenue

  • Channels typically ensure the guest is verified before allowing him to instantly book, so that you can feel safe with instant bookings

Tips:

  • Keeping your calendar up to date is key to using instant book successfully

  • Ensuring your PTBA policy does not block last-minute bookings

  • Try avoiding cancelling bookings as it decreases your reliability as a host

Request to book

Requests to book give you a certain amount of time to review and accept or decline each submitted request to book. In most cases you will be able to review your guest's profile (including other hosts' reviews etc.). Some hosts, especially those with unique spaces or inconsistent schedules, prefer manual booking requests. Not every sales channel offers the request to book flow.
