Email forwarding

If you want to enable Guest Communication forwarding, you need to go to Control Panel > Email setup section and establish a connection between Rentals United and your mailbox. This is done by the email proxy / forwarding and is required for all channels with which we do not have a direct API connection (see here).

Email proxy facilitates the communication between customers, Rentals United and guests. It is mandatory to set it in order for Rentals United to have access to them. By setting it, Rentals United is granted access to your email account and can send messages on behalf of your account. It is recommended that you use a brand new email account or an email account used solely for guest communication purposes. This is because all newly received emails are forwarded to Rentals United.

By setting proxy, Rentals United is granted access to your email account. Note that Rentals United does not have access to read any sent or received emails. It can only forward and send messages on behalf of your account.
  1. Set up SMTP, so that we can send emails on your behalf.

    Grant Rentals United access to your mailbox. Once you do it, the email address Rentals United has access to is visible in the Email setup section.

    If your email account is a Gmail mailbox, select the Gmail option from the dropdown list and click the Connect button. You will be moved to the Google log-in page. Select the account you want to grant Rentals United access to it.

    If your mailbox provider is any other company, select the SMTP server option from the dropdown list. Provide the required information that is your email address, mailbox password and the SMTP server address. Click the Connect button.

  2. Set up the forwarding in your mailbox, so that we can display messages in Rentals United platform and API.

    Log in to the mailbox you granted Rentals United access to. Find the forwarding options in the settings and configure automatic forwarding to forward all messages to inbox@users.rentalsunited.com.

    Click here to learn more about how to set up a forwarding option in your Gmail account. Note that while adding the email address where the messages will be forwarded, Google will prompt you to provide a verification code that has been sent to inbox@users.rentalsunited.com. See the screenshot.

    The verification code is managed automatically and there is no need to provide any information here. So, please, disregard this notification, refresh the Gmail website and the prompt will disappear.

    Tip: MFA

    If you are using MFA in your inbox, you can continue using Guest Communication as MFA does not influence it.

  3. Test your settings. If you experience unexpected behaviour, please contact the Rentals United Support Team.

  4. Make sure the same address you granted Rentals United access to is set in all sales channels you are connected to.
