Instant booking process

Despegar inserts reservations in Rentals United using the data available in the channel at the time of the reservation. Despegar does not perform the quote request to Rentals United before the reservation is inserted.

  1. A guest enters the reservation page on the Despegar website and provides the details of a reservation (dates, number of guests etc.).

  2. If the property is available to rent, the guest completes the reservation process on the Despegar website by providing their personal data.

  3. Despegar inserts a booking to Rentals United.

  4. An email notification with new reservation details is sent to the PM’s confirmation email address.

Reservations are synchronised to Rentals United based on the real-time notifications received from Despegar. Therefore, new reservations should appear in Rentals United with minimal delay. In order to avoid synchronisation errors, we will additionally check for new reservations periodically - every 3 hours.

Request-to-book

Despegar does not support the request-to-book flow.

Inserting reservation manually

It is always possible to insert reservations manually in Rentals United. In such a case, the availability is blocked and the channel is updated. Despegar will not have access to the details of any reservation inserted manually.

Reservation details

When a reservation is received, Despegar provides us with the standard guest personal data (name, surname, phone number etc.) and booking details (property name, number of guests, date, price). Some channels also include additional information. All these details can be accessed in Guest Planner > Big Card or via API methods used to retrieve reservations, for example Pull_ListReservations_RQ.

Cancellation Policy

Despegar shares the cancellation policies used for the booking:

  • cancellation policy (see here)

  • early check-out (set in Despegar)

  • no-show (set in Despegar)

You can access this information in the reservation comments.

Price breakdown

Despegar shares the following information with Rentals United:

  • prices

  • fees and taxes

  • commission

Reservation price breakdown is available:

  • Rentals United price breakdown: in Big Card and via API

  • Channel breakdown: via API

Payments

Despegar shares information about the payment. Note that this information is dependent on the property manager's selection upon connecting to Despegar via Services.

  • virtual credit card (VCC) - will appear in the reservation comments (there may be a little delay)

  • checking account (transfer) - the reservation comments will include the following "Payment for this booking will be made to your checking account as per your contract with Despegar"

You can see this information in the comments section of the reservation. If not available there, you need to check directly with Despegar.

Guest penalty rates

When the reservation is cancelled and its status is updated from confirmed to cancelled, then the guest is charged with additional penalty amounts by Despegar.

The information on how much you should charge the channel is available in the comments section of the reservation.

Importing bookings (N/A)

You cannot import existing bookings from Despegar

Modifying a reservation

Modifications are initiated in Despegar and synchronised to Rentals United in real time. If a reservation is modified in Rentals United, it will not be synchronised with Despegar.

A reservation can be modified in the following ways:

  • Guest information

  • Payment information

Cancelling a reservation

Cancellations are initiated in Despegar and synchronised to Rentals United in real time. In case you need to cancel a reservation, please reach out to your Despegar contact directly. If a reservation is cancelled in Rentals United, it will not be synchronised with Despegar.
